not perfect, but the product is pretty self explanatory as …

This bed rail arrived in about 1-2 days! It fits my daughters converted crib- now daybed. The directions are ok, not perfect, but the product is pretty self explanatory as far as assembly. It fits snugly to her toddler size mattress, only complaint being that it does lean inward slightly due to the design. Its nothing that causes an issue, just something I noticed.

Great but

I purchased this bedrail because like others out there who have purchased convertible cribs, the kit to convert it had been discontinued. Even if it was still around, it would have been about $150 just to make it a toddler bed, which is more expensive than buying an entirely new toddler bed! Convertible cribs are misleading and a rip off. They should come with everything you need to convert it! But enough with my rant….this rail is great. I was looking for something that would work with a crib that has a flat wooden base (some universal rail kits don’t), wasn’t unappealing to the eye (ugly mesh ones that are really big), and was safe. This hit all marks. For those complaining about the confusing instructions, maybe they have changed them because my husband had this put together in less than 10 minutes with no problem. The only reason I give this 4 stars instead of 5 is the finish. The wood is unfinished, but very smooth, so I’m not worried about splinters, but it would have been nice to be able to have this rail available in different finishes (white, espresso, honey, etc) to match the most common crib colors. I plan on painting it when the weather warms up, but the fact that its more work for me causes me to give them one less star. Very good product, my daughter has been sleeping with it for a few days and it is secure and does its job. I just don’t like that I’ll need to paint it.

Great for my graco convertible crib

I have a Graco convertible crib in Natural. We removed the front side to turn it into a toddler bed for our 2 year old daughter. This bed rail is perfect for my daughter. I was worried with the way it is set up that it wouldn’t be sturdy enough, but my daughter has leaned on it and pulled on it and it doesn’t move much once it is in place. She even seems to sleep up against it at night, so she must feel safe and secure. It is easy to change the sheets, I don’t even have to move the rail at all. I have left the wood unfinished and it is fine. It is smooth to the touch and I haven’t had a problem with any splinters. I have had blankets over it and have not had any snagging. I see no problem with it being unfinished, other than it not matching the crib’s finish exactly. I would definitely recommend this bed rail for any parent looking to convert their crib to a toddler bed.

Good – just note this is NOT tall enough for a regular mattress on its own

color is fine, I love that you can easily and completely disconnect the side rail to change the sheets. the ‘fold down’ variety seem like they would get in the way.

Great piece of mind for a paranoid mom

We needed a crib bed rail after our son, soon to be two, made some unsuccessful attempts to escape his crib when putting him to sleep. Even though he was not tall enough to get out of the crib, we did not wanted to risk it and bought this rail. The rail arrived while I was working from home and being anxious about the whole safety issue, I stated putting it together myself, thinking that my husband would arrive soon after and put it himself. I was surprised when I was able to assemble it myself rather quickly. Another concern I had was my son forgetting that the rail was there instead of the crib side, and falling, but actually that never happened (random ideas that pop in my head that I use to torture myself). My son was very happy to be able to get in and out of the bed, and has enjoyed the transition. The rail seems to be pretty safe, and we are happy with it. By the way, we have a Delta Canton 4-in-1 Convertible Crib.

Once you know how it fits together it is easy to put together and install

I bought the KidCo Convertible Crib Rail about 1.5 years ago for the Graco crib we have (of which there is no toddler bed kit). Safety and proper fit were my main concern when I chose to buy this product. I don’t recall having too many issues putting it together properly. Once you know how it fits together it is easy to put together and install. It is very sturdy, the only time I’ve had to put it back together was when we moved. I do like to keep the strap extra tight so it has left a little dent in the crib frame. Changing the sheets isn’t as convenient as a regular bed, but it’s still worth a little extra hassle. We never did paint it to match the crib and as of yet still no slivers.

Wonderful!!

Great Convertible Rail

 on February 22, 2011
By KT's Mom
We ordered this for our 2 1/2 year old daughter back in January. She had started finally climbing out of her crib. Our crib was a hand-me down convertible, and we decided that we would keep her in it, instead of investing in a toddler bed that would last her maybe a year. Seemed kind of silly to spend all that cash on that. Her crib holds more weight than a toddler bed and she can stay in it til she no longer fits lengthwise. So we set about looking for a convertible rail. This was the only one we were satisfied with. It is wooden, looks nice (my husband finished the wood to match the crib). Is sturdy and stays in place just fine. We never had any problems with fitting it to our crib, nothing bent or broken, it was easy. It’s really too bad it has to cost $70, but since we didn’t pay for our crib, it wasn’t a big deal for us (also the crib manufacturer was charging $85 for a rail). We would recommend this to everyone for it’s simplicity and ease of use. We can pull off the rail and lie down or read next to our child at night and easily pop the rail back in place when it’s bedtime. If in doubt, check it out at your local Babies R Us.

So much better looking than the plastic or mesh ones

My though my convertible crib was a cinch to turn into a toddler bed, the company does not make rails. Once I got this one, I stained it to match the crib. Set up was a cinch – there are no screws, just pop everthing together, plop it on the bed frame and put the mattress on top. The whole thing is surprisingly sturdy. Now I’m not saying you should stand on it, or use it to lift yourself (both of which have occurred in my house with no ill effects), but it keeps my crazy somersaulting child in bed. and the rail pops out with out having to remove the whole set up when you want to change the sheets. Very happy with this purchase.
