How to easily remove the flow restrictor

I love the Kohler rainshower showerhead. I’ve tried many different shower heads, always searching for the right one. Recently I stayed in a Marriott where this particular shower head had been installed in the bathroom, and I fell in love with it. There’s a nice combination of pressure and coverage, just what I was looking for. I ordered one, and in my home the pressure wasn’t quite what I remembered from the hotel. I figured it must be a combination of the water pressure in my home and the flow restrictor causing it to feel different. So here’s how to take the restrictor out to make it better: Take out the screen and black gasket out from the stem. You’ll see a green plastic device and a small black rubber ring; they appear to be integrated into the base of the showerhead and can’t be removed. So what I did is use a common nail (I had some galvanized 10D 3 inch nails in the garage) and, using a hammer, gently punched a hole right into the center of the green plastic piece. Then, using a pair of tweezers, I was able to completely remove all of the green plastic pieces. Be careful that the pieces don’t enter into the showerhead itself. Put the screen back in place (this prevents particles in your water from entering and clogging the showerhead) and screw the showerhead back on. Presto! Instant pressure increase. I have my own well, so I’m not concerned about the increase in flow rate and extra utilization of water. I take quick showers anyway.
Has held up nicely for two years, but wish I’d removed the flow restrictor

I bought the brushed nickel version of this showerhead two years ago and it looked great…much better than the simple nozzle that had come in my apartment. I felt the water pressure had gone down, but figured it looked good and was saving water…so I’d just deal with it.
Well worth the money
This was a replacement for our old clogged shower head.
Makes for a very pleasant shower!
After my wife and i moved into our apartment, the shower head quickly found its way onto our list of things that needed to be replaced. The existing one was old, worn, and about as inefficient as you could find. It was dumping water out so quickly that two consecutive hot showers was wishful thinking at best. After some searching we ended on this one by Kohler. Very happy that we did! It creates a good even stream and the coverage is excellent. Pressure is what we had hoped for. It is firm enough to rinse effectively but still gentle and pleasant for a nice long hot shower. Water usage is reasonable. No more issues with the water starting to get towards the end of the second shower. It was easy to install and we’re still very happy with it 3 months later!
This is an excellent shower head without useless gimmicks.
This a high quality head, with a very nice jet spread and a lot of nozzles. The nozzles are the self cleaning silicone type.

Purchased the Kohler k-10282-cp after our Moen multi-head shower head broke. The Moen springs came loose after I replaced a sink faucet. It must have damaged when I turned the water back on.. And the air pocket water spirts killed the springs. So we wanted to replace with a non-mechanical shower head. This Kohler had great reviews, so we bought it. Installed it.. And, OMG! This thing is AMAZING!! A billion times better then the Moen multihead we had (witch I thought was amazing as well). Water pressure is also amazing! We left it the way it was, or did not remove any flow restrictos. The chrome plastic looks and works just fine. Stupid silly to buy all metal in my opinion. The part that screws into pipe, is metal. We love it! And hope to enjoy it for many years to come, as its non-mechanical.
Tips for Removing the Flow Restrictor (if you so choose)

I am very pleased with this shower head with the flow restrictor removed. I should mention that I have very good city water pressure. I find the “bell” shape very attractive and compatible with a variety of decors (ours is modern). Removing the restrictor is fairly simple if you have a hand drill and a reasonable assortment of small twist drill bits, After prying out the filter screen with a small screwdriver (and saving it to reinsert later), I drilled a small hole in the center of the blue plastic flow restrictor and then began enlarging the hole with successively larger drill bits. My original plan was to drill out enough of the center that the remaining “rim” could be easily pried out with a screwdriver, but on the fourth drill out the remainder of the restrictor came out stuck around the drill bit. The small chips of plastic created by the drilling were easily shaken out of the shower head. I then replaced the conical filter screen and attached the shower head to the chrome pipe stub from which I had removed the old head after putting teflon tape on the threads of the pipe stub,

Like another reviewer, I first experienced this showerhead at a Marriott hotel and knew immediately that I wanted it. I bought it for my wife for Mother’s day a year ago, and we have both really enjoyed it. Compared to many other showerheads, this one is perfect. The water comes out softly but there is plenty of it. It makes showering a very pleasant experience. Unlike others, I made no modification to the pressure valve inside.
absolutly love it

i too removed the flow restrictor right away before using it..i used a long nail and hammer is through but dont want to beat the crap out of it or else the small green plastic pieace will break into the head and possibly clog your holes where the water shoots out from..i actually did hit it to hard a few small pieces went threw, but luckly they were small enough to where when i turned the head up side down they came out, then i put the rubber screen back in and done deal..when i turned it on from the side it really didnt look like my flow..i was actually dissapointed cause it looks so low flow..but when you get in and your in front of it then its a completly different story, takes you by surprise..i feel like im caught outside in a shower..lol and i love the look of it for a $40 shower head its very luxurious looking, to me it looks like one of those $100 shower heads, plus its a kohler, not many things i can afford from them but this was a must have for me, the showers are much more enjoyable now..and everytime i shower i feel like im treating myself at a spa or something..lol, definatly a awsome buy, i will be buying another one for my other shower..the head is also very flexable in terms of angles..moving it left and right and up and down it covers a great deal of space..if your on the fence about it i would jump off and grab one of these and start treating yourself to a great shower..
Good drencher just don’t expect jet like messaging.
